CHALLENGE

What could a home for policy experiences in the heart of the EU Quarter look like?

In the early days of summer 2024, we decided to build something we had always dreamed of having – a fully customisable space that could act as a home for the premium policy experiences we co-create with our visionary clients.

Fast forward to November 2024: we opened the Bump Policy Experience Space together with our brilliant first resident ACEA.

While their six-week #FutureDriven experience came to an end on 12 December, you can expect to see many more Bump clients share this 400m² venue/office with us for years to come.

About the space

Located in the former ING Bank on Place du Luxembourg, just steps from the European Parliament, we’ve conceived the Bump Policy Experience Space as a place where our clients can immerse audiences in their story with two fully transformable floors to guarantee that no two experiences we build in the space will feel the same.

Space highlights

  • Location: Did we mention it’s on Place du Luxembourg (ha)
  • Design:  The ground floor features a double-height with a giant 5×1.5m touchscreen ideal for custom developed interactive maps. Customisable panels cover the interior walls on both the ground and first floors which can house infographic-style and video content or just add a branded colour splash to make it feel like an extension of our clients’ world.
  • Event Setup: In the first six weeks of its existence, we’ve hosted almost every type of gathering you’d expect to see in the EU bubble: 5-person Panels, Fireside Chats, TED-style talks, informal info sessions for APAs – each with a seated capacity on the 1st floor of 50. A Thursday night apero event also welcomed about 90 guests and a DJ crew. We’ve also been joined by media partners like Euronews, EurActiv and POLITICO for livestreamed events.
  • In-house video, photography and audio support: Nearly every single event within a policy experience is an opportunity to extend the life the effort through video. We craft every event format with “video editability” in mind. The Bump video team our clients know well are at the helm of this effort, now bolstered with an audio engineer and dedicated photographer.
  • The kitchen serves as the ideal home base for catering teams which so far have served everything from light sandwiches to a four-course plated meal for a private lunch for the Secretaries General of Brussels Associations.

Experience focus

The space is designed for curated, extended activations co-created with the Bump team, ideally for a minimum duration of one week. It’s a place where stakeholders can engage deeply with policy narratives in an environment crafted to foster learning, interaction and insight.

What can you expect to see in 2025?

  • One of the first-ever pop-up experiences by single brand ever executed in the EU bubble
  • A week-long dialogue with a well-known trade association that features three days of fireside chats with Commissioners and a top-tier media partner, each day with a unique small select audience
  • A celebration of youth, entrepreneurship and skills-building with a trade association always keen to think bigger than their own industry and build the Europe they want to see
  • Bump-owned events that nurture our wonderful community of policy communicators (think Podcast Lab, Policy Experience Day)
  • A live show of one of Europe’s most loved podcasts

Give it to me straight, what is the space suited for?

The space is suited for a variety of uses, in many different configurations, including:

  • European Parliament-style exhibitions (similar to this or this)
  • Residencies in the space for a minimum of one-week
  • Custom immersive experiences of industries, companies and technologies.
  • Multiple small events spread across the activation (max 50 seated on +1 floor)
  • Receptions for up to 100 people

What is the space less suited for?

We want this space to be a place EU stakeholders come to knowing that they can expect a high-quality policy experience – a place where they will learn, feel or do something. This means the space is not a great fit for:

  • Very large events
  • Events in need of “break out rooms”
  • One-day or half-day rentals for events
    • Exceptions to this will be available for Bump’s retained clients.
  • Third-party supplier use of the space
