CHALLENGE

How can we design a flexible furniture system that adapts to small, medium and large Hub locations, aligns with the Hub’s brand identity and enhances the user experience for both visitors and facilitators?

Bump collaborated with Microsoft to bring the Flexible Design System to Microsoft’s Innovation Hub space in London, UK and Minneapolis, US.

The design builds on adaptability, prioritising the creation of an exceptionally flexible and easily adjustable system to efficiently be used for a wide range of diverse applications and spaces.

Bump first identified and defined the four core furniture units forming the foundation of the system. The elements were:

  1. Demo Unit – equipped with a display to support seamless technology demonstrations
  2. Signage Unit – designed to carry primary branding and demo messaging
  3. Productivity Unit – a high-desk workspace to support individual productivity and collaborative sessions
  4. Pedestal Unit – a flexible pedestal that can have different surfaces depending on the Hub’s needs

The four elements act as building blocks of a flexible and scalable furniture system tailored to Microsoft Technology Hubs.
