How can we demonstrate the many different facets of cruises to policymakers, who may not necessarily be familiar with the industry and how it works?
Cruises are a unique way to travel the world, but unless you’ve experienced what it’s like aboard a cruise ship, it can be a difficult experience to describe.
There are countless moving pieces, crew members and logistical details involved in ensuring a successful cruise voyage, and with Bump’s collaboration with Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), we helped bring this in-person experience to life.
Titled The Voyage, this modular, cruise-ship-shaped installation tells the cruise line industry’s story across four main components:
1. An interactive CLIA sustainability toolkit
Designed to inform and inspire, this element is an interactive digital sustainability toolkit that allows visitors to navigate through the cruise industry’s environmental innovation practices on a touchscreen.
The toolkit is split into three topics: The land we visit, the air we breathe and the ocean we sail. Each of these topics are showcased with examples of innovative practices in the industry.
2. A porthole video experience
Designed to engage and spark curiosity, the porthole element includes two separate 1.5-minute audiovisual experiences demonstrating key sustainability topics aboard cruise ships: water treatment and onboard recycling.
3. An interactive Spilhaus map
Designed to inform and encourage interaction, visitors can explore a special hands-on Spilhaus projection map (a map projection that shows the world’s oceans as one body of seawater) on a display screen.
The map includes three physical buttons that visitors can press to activate visual answers to three coinciding questions:
1. Where are oceangoing cruise ships built?
2. Where can oceangoing cruise ships connect to shoreside electricity?
3. Did you know a cruise ship is the best way to experience the world?
4. Testimonial videos
Finally, towards the back of the experience, visitors can watch a video loop of testimonials from key stakeholders to learn more about the cruise line industry.

Good news. So are we.
